Addressing the issue, the police stated, “Videos depicting the assault of several men are circulating in Kalaburgi city. An FIR was registered on May 5th, and seven accused have already been apprehended.” The victims, identified as Abdul Rehman from Hirapur in Kalaburagi, Mohammad Sameeruddin from Islamabad Colony, and Arjunappa Madival from Devanoor village in Sedam taluk, were confined to a building in a remote area on Hagarga road for an entire day (from May 4th to 5th) and subjected to torture. The perpetrators recorded the incident on their cell phones and shared it on social media platforms.

The Kalaburagi police arrested the seven perpetrators responsible for torturing the three men. The victims were administered electric shocks to their private parts, beaten with wooden sticks, and threatened with death. The incident unfolded when Arjunappa demanded a commission of Rs 1 lakh from Ramesh for facilitating the purchase of a used car from his associate Abdul Rehman in Kalaburagi for Rs 6 lakh. On May 4th, Arjunappa traveled from Sedam to Chittapur to pick up Ramesh, intending to purchase a secondhand automobile. After finalizing the deal at Naganahalli Cross, Ramesh brought all three victims to his friend Imran’s house on Hagarga road under the pretext of delivering money. There, they were confined to a room and subjected to brutal torture and verbal abuse after Imran and his accomplices took them for a test drive.

On May 5th, Imran, the main perpetrator, began threatening to kill Arjunappa and demanded Rs 10 lakh. In response, Arjunappa instructed his wife to deposit Rs 50,000 into his account. Imran confiscated Arjunappa’s phone and made transactions worth about Rs 42,000 via PhonePe by accessing his password. Additionally, Imran demanded Rs 7 lakh in extortion money to release Arjunappa and his two associates and instructed him to pay Rs 1 lakh in commission every month. Acting on a tip, the police arrived at the location on the evening of May 5th. The perpetrators attempted to flee but were apprehended.

The victims filed a complaint with the Vishwavidyalaya police station in Kalaburagi at 9:30 pm on the same day, following which a case was registered against the offenders under several provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 307 (attempt to murder), 149, 365, 342, 364(a), 504, and 326.
