Srinagar: In a coordinated operation, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended a terrorist associate and seized a cache of arms and ammunition from the Pethkoot forest area in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Sunday.

Acting on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area, the security forces cordoned off the forest and launched a search operation. During the operation, four pistols, one hand grenade, and other war-like stores were recovered. The successful operation resulted in the significant seizure of arms and ammunition, leading to the arrest of the terrorist associate. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.

Security measures in Jammu and Kashmir have been heightened since the Udhampur attack on April 28, during which a Village Defence Guard (VDG) was killed in an encounter with terrorists. In response, security forces have intensified their efforts, conducting extensive search operations to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.

Furthermore, on May 4, terrorists attacked an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in the Sanai village of Surankote in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The attack resulted in the death of one IAF soldier, while four others sustained injuries. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to the Command Hospital in Udhampur, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.
