CHENNAI: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan has stated that his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), will solicit public donations. In a statement, the actor-turned-politician claimed he was looking for donations to help individuals change their lives. He stated that he was not pursuing money merely for the sake of people's well-being, but also to assure a good future for the next generation. Kamal Haasan says, donations from the public are needed to keep politics honest. He said that donating his after-tax profits to the political party was not enough to confront the "corrupt rodents" in politics. Many in the film industry used to refer to him as a prophet, but he added he doesn't believe in prophesies and instead believes in convictions and hard work. The MNM has already fielded candidates in most Corporations and municipalities, and is anticipated to win a few seats in the municipal elections, but it has yet to register candidates for town Panchayat seats. The decision of Kamal Haasan to seek donations was initially met with opposition from the general public and his own party members, but the celebrity is now soliciting funds from the general public in order to continue the political party's activities.
