Kannada Film Industry mourns over the passing of legendary poet Dr. Siddalingaiah

The tragic passing of Dr. Siddalingaiah has saddened many across the country. A radical poet and playwright, Dr. Siddalingaiah had dedicated his career to Dalit rights and has been a key figure of the Bandaya literature moment. With his written word proving to be an instrumental force in the critical analysis of Indian society, many have continually acknowledged his legacy on social media, and the Kannada Film Industry too has paid tributes in the same spirit. Here are a few:

Actor Chetan Ahimsa, who has himself been a champion of the Dalit cause, left a note about the impact that Dr. Siddalingaiah's work and endeavors had on him.

Filmmaker, activist, and columnist Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar expressed deep grief over Dr. Siddalingaiah's passing, and with the latter being a close friend and associate over the years, his words brimmed with feelings of despair and memory.

Actor Sathish Ninasam too took to social media to express his emotions over the matter and on a similar note as Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, shared how much Dr. Siddalingaiah's work and ethos meant to him. "As a fierce voice supporting the marginalized sections, Dr. Siddalingaiah's death has brought in a permanent void in this region which can never be filled. And the fact that the same voice ceases from returning causes me a great amount of pain. So long, sir.." wrote the 'Lucia' actor.

Director Shashank paid respects to the legendary poet's work and life and referred to him as an immortal voice.
