Karnata Inspector attacked by Ganja mafia battles for life in Kalaburagi

BANGALORE: Circle Inspector of Police Sreemanth Illal, who was attacked by a gang of more than 40 ganja growers and smugglers near Turori and Honnali villages on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border in Bidar district late on Friday, was struggling for life at United Hospital in Kalaburagi on Saturday, September 26.

Inspector Srimanth is being treated at United Hospital in Kalaburagi after being fatally attacked by a group of 40 marijuana growers in Maharashtra.

The special arrangement of the air ambulance was arranged following Inspector Srimanth's sagging health condition. The air ambulance had reached Kalaburagi from Kochi in Kerala.

The incident happened on September 23 in Maharashtra's Taruri village, Umarga taluka, and Manthala police station boundaries. On suspicion of selling marijuana, the police detained Santhosh from Bhosaga and Naveen from Kalaburagi in the Basavakalyan Taluk.

Based on their intelligence, Kamalapur CPI Srimanth and a 10-person police squad conducted a raid on an agricultural area in Maharashtra, 80 kilometres from Kalaburagi and close to the Karnataka border. The police squad was ambushed by a gang of 40 individuals who suddenly appeared with wooden logs and stones.

The attack severely injured CPI Srimanth. Srimanth attempted to start firing but was overcome by the assailants. He was hurt in the stomach, chest, and face. It's said that his condition is critical.
