Karnataka: The Congress in Kalyana Karnataka will focus on bringing back leaders and cadres who deserted to other parties as part of its efforts to strengthen itself ahead of the Assembly elections next year. Tippannappa Kamaknur and Sharankumar Modi, vice-president and general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said on Saturday at a press conference at Aiwan-e-Shahi Guest House in Kalaburagi that they would personally approach the homes of the party's deserters and persuade them to return. "Many honourable members of Congress have defected to other political parties. If they choose to return, the Congress has already opened its doors to them. We, on the other hand, would approach them and convince them to return to the party. Kamaknur stated, "We are planning to conduct a special visit in the Kalyana Karnataka region for the purpose." Kamaknur further expressed his dissatisfaction with the growing communal divide in Karnataka, saying that the Congress would hold a massive people's conference in Kalaburagi, involving people and leaders from all communities, to uphold the region's tradition of peaceful coexistence of different communities and send a message of communal harmony.
