Karnataka court to pronounce order on Lingayat mutt sex scandal today

BANGALORE: a Chitradurga local court will on Friday, September 23,  rule on the bail application filed by rape suspect Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaruo in the Lingayat mutt sex scandal case.

The order will be promulgated by Second Additional District and Sessions' court Judge B.K. Komala, who had criticised the prosecution for giving the accused seer special treatment and attempting to relocate him to Bangalore.

The accused seer will likely leave the hospital on Friday, according to reports. The blood pressure and saturation readings returned to normal after the angiography, according to heart surgeons Dr. Mahesh Murthy and Dr. Parameshwar.

Given his cardiac condition, the accused was given permission to have treatment on Wednesday at Shivamogga's Meggaon Hospital. Murugha Sharanaru was detained after two young girls said that he had threatened and sexually exploited them.

They had spoken to the Mysuru-based NGO Odanadi, and the NGO later pursued the matter. After a dramatic change of events, the accused Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was taken into custody and lodged in jail. He was later turned over to police custody.

Murugha Sharanaru has been charged with violating both the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). The government facility is housing the girls.

Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that the accused seer has been abusing minor children sexually for more than ten years have arisen. He had a strong network in the mutt that he used to take advantage of the girls. Many progressive intellectuals and junior pontiffs have contested the claim that Francis gave money and property belonging to the mutt at his discretion to sexual assault victims.
