Bangalore: Assembly elections are proposed in Karnataka this year and the political temperature in the state has already started rising. Hindu organizations have raised the issue of 'Love Jihad' to save the dignity and lives of sisters and daughters. BJP is also seen in its support. The demand to enact a law against ''Love Jihad'' is being driven strongly. Karnataka BJP unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel has appealed to the voters to focus on love jihad by ignoring "roads, drains and other minor issues" and now the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has launched a campaign against "love jihad". A ''helpline'' has been launched in the communally sensitive coastal district of Dakshina Kannada. VHP state deputy secretary Sharan Pumpwell says at least 20 members of the organization will work for the helpline against "love jihad". Hindutva activists have been claiming that Muslim men entice women from other religions to marry them and convert to Islam. He said, 'Many cases of love jihad have come to the fore in Dakshina Kannada district. Incidents show that women are their target at schools, colleges, and workplaces. We want to stop this. We have started a helpline in Dakshina Kannada district.' Sharan has said that the helpline will also provide information, legal help, and counseling to ''victims of love jihad.'' Sharan Sai further said, 'We are also planning to distribute 2 lakh pamphlets in Dakshina Kannada district to increase awareness.'
