Karnataka dist admn on high alert as 84 devotees test covid positive

MANDYA: Karnataka's Mandya district has issued a high warning after 84 worshippers who returned from a pilgrimage to the Om Shakti temple in Tamil Nadu tested positive for Covid-19, according to local officials. 

Another group of about 800 pilgrims is expected to arrive in the district, and officials have made plans to test them for Covid-19.Thousands of people from all around the area visit the Om Shakti temple in Tamil Nadu every year. Because many devotees who returned from the pilgrimage tested positive, district officials gathered information and followed roughly 3,600 devotees from various areas in the district who returned from the pilgrimage in Tamil Nadu.

They were all tested, and so far 84 have come back positive. To deal with the crisis, the health department and the district authorities have joined forces.Those who tested positive were sent home and would be tested for Covid-19 again in seven days.

Meanwhile, the district administration has imposed prohibitory measures in the district and directed that all reservations for out-of-state trips and pilgrimages be cancelled. Tehsildars have been ordered to establish a quarantine and isolation centre in each taluk. The authorities have asked Om Shakti worshippers to work with them in order to stop the virus from spreading.
