Bangalore: A unique example of communal harmony has been seen in Hirbidnaur village under Belagavi district of Karnataka. Actually, not a single Muslim family lives in this village. Nevertheless, the Hindus here celebrated the festival of Muharram with great pomp. A procession was taken out on the streets of the village with drums and drums. For the last 5 days, a different picture of communal harmony was seen in the village. The population of this village, situated about 51 km from Belagavi, is about 3 thousand. The population of the village is mostly Valmiki and Kurba caste people. There are no Muslims here. But there is a mosque here, the Fakireshwara Swamy Masjid, which tells a unique story of unity. Actually, two Muslim brothers built this mosque long ago. After their death, the villagers took up the responsibility of looking after it. Yallapa Naiker, a Hindu priest, visits the mosque every day and performs Hindu rituals. During Muharram, a cleric from a nearby village comes to this mosque and stays here for about a week to offer prayers according to Islam. During this time he stays in the mosque itself. Prakash Kumar, a villager, tells that all the people of the village celebrate Muharram every year. Different arts are performed during the five days. The entire village has been celebrating Muharram together for more than a hundred years. Keep in mind that Muharram is considered the second holiest occasion of worship in Islam after Ramadan. The first day of this month is also called Hijri. That is, the beginning of the new year in Arabic is considered from this day. The Muslim community considers this day very important.
