International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Karnataka on Friday, showcasing the state's deep-rooted connection to the ancient practice. The main event unfolded on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha, where Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Legislative Council Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti, and senior government officials, participated fervently. A significant number of students also joined the event, actively engaging in Yogasanas. Governor Gehlot, addressing the gathering, emphasized the transformative impact of yoga on mental peace and emotional well-being. He highlighted yoga's intrinsic connection to Indian culture, noting its global recognition and India's role as a leader in promoting yoga worldwide. "Yoga has been an integral part of our cultural heritage since ancient times. It is not just a physical exercise but a holistic practice that nurtures physical health, mental serenity, and emotional fulfillment," Governor Gehlot remarked. This year's theme, 'Yoga for Self and Society,' underscores yoga's dual benefits in fostering personal well-being and social harmony. In Ballari, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah participated in an event organized by the Santosh Lad Foundation and Shvasa Yoga Samstha. The event, held at JSW Township in Ballari, drew participation from Labour Minister Santosh Lad, government officials, students, and local celebrities. Simultaneously, the BJP organized a Yoga Day event at its state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, MLA Dr. C N Ashwath Narayan, and several others joined in the celebrations. Similar events unfolded across all district headquarters in Karnataka, including Hassan, Shivamogga, Mysuru, Belagavi, Bidar, Tumakuru, Dakshina Kannada, and Raichur, highlighting the widespread participation and enthusiasm for yoga across the state.
