Karnataka Police Apprehend Three Individuals Over Controversial Posters Mocking Nitish Kumar

Bangalore: On July 22, the Karnataka police apprehended three individuals in Bengaluru for installing posters critical of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar during a recent meeting of opposition parties. The arrested individuals are Sriram, Nandakumar, and Mohan, all residents of Bengaluru’s Sheshadripuram neighborhood.

According to the police, Sriram sponsored the mounting of the posters, which were printed at Nandakumar’s printing press. The transportation of the posters was done using Mohan's tempo. The posters were displayed at twenty different locations in the city, including along the route to Bengaluru Airport. The police are currently questioning them to determine if any political figures were involved in the incident.

The posters, which first appeared on July 18, mocked the Janata Dal-United supremo, referring to him as an "Unstable Prime Ministerial Contender" and highlighting mishaps of bridge collapses in Bihar during his administration. The posters also criticized his invitation to the event in Bengaluru, calling him the "man who builds underwater bridges."

These posters surfaced during a two-day 'unity' event organized by opposition parties in Bengaluru, aimed at showcasing their strength ahead of the crucial 2024 general elections and opposing the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party alliances.

The police acted swiftly to remove the posters from prominent locations near the meeting that Nitish Kumar was scheduled to attend.

D.K. Shivakumar, the state Congress president and deputy chief minister of Karnataka, accused the BJP of putting up the posters to attack the veteran JD(U) leader. He stated that the Congress party is ready to combat such actions and claimed that Nitish Kumar is well aware of Karnataka politics.
