DAKSHINA KANNADA: Karnataka Police have started the probe into the suspicious death case of a Hindu activist in Panemangalore near Bantwal area in Dakshina Kannada district. On Thursday, Rajesh Poojari's, age 38, body was found in the Nethravathi River. Rajesh worked as Prakand Goraksha Pramukh and was a proponent of Hindu nationalism. The general public spotted his bicycle close to the river bridge and called the police. Rajesh is believed to be the victim of a retaliatory death by Hindu activists due to his intense involvement with them. Sharan Pumpwell, co-convenor of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), has called for a high-level investigation into the incident. Rajesh lived in Sajipa, and his unexplained death has sparked unrest in the sensitively divided area. The police sources said, they have already started interviewing people. The police are tight-lipped about the findings of preliminary investigations as any information regarding the case would lead to the law and order situation in the district and coastal region. Earlier, BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Kumar Nettare was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants last year in the region, which became national news. The probe showed that he was targeted in the backdrop of the hijab crisis. The inquiry further revealed that the incident was a reprisal for the killing of Muslim teenager Masood. Masood, however, was slain in a case of road rage, according to the investigation. The day after Praveen was killed, a group killed local teenager Fazil by hacking him to death. He was murdered to exact revenge for Praveen's murder, the killers admitted to the police.
