KCR demands for PM Modi to accommodate Ukraine medical returnees in Indian colleges

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, expressing concern about the future of medical students who returned to India from the war-torn Ukraine, and urging him to increase seats in the country's medical colleges to accommodate these students.

"Due to the sudden outbreak of war in Ukraine, Indian students studying in various medical colleges in Ukraine were forced to interrupt their education at various stages and return to India under extremely difficult circumstances. The disruption has jeopardised the future of these Indian students who have invested a significant amount of time and money in Ukraine pursuing their medical degree, which is now likely to be completed "KCR wrote to Prime Minister Modi in a letter.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader said, around 20,000 Indian students have been displaced from Ukraine as a result of the conflict. The majority of them come from middle-class families who will lose their life savings if their children's medical education is not completed.

Chief Minister claimed, nearly 700 Telangana students have returned from Ukraine without completing their medical study. Because of the hardships they endure, the Telangana government has agreed to cover the medical college fees for Telangana students.

"In light of these students' unique circumstances, I propose that as a special instance to assist them at completing their degree, they be allowed to enrol in medical colleges across the country in similar semesters, subject to the current regulations. To accommodate these students, approval may be granted to proportionately increase the seats in different semesters in medical institutions on a one-time basis. I respectfully request that you study this subject carefully and make a decision as soon as possible "KCR urged.
