Kejriwal directs all state-run sports facilities to stay open till 10 pm

NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government has issued directives to all sporting facilities to remain open until 10 p.m. for athletes.

"It has come to my attention that athletes are having difficulties due to the heat, and that stadiums close by 6 or 7 p.m. We are giving orders that all sporting facilities stay open till 10 p.m. so that athletes can use them," Kejriwal told reporters.

The directive came after a media allegation that the Thyagraj Stadium was closed earlier than usual for sports activities so that an IAS officer could walk his dog at the facility.

Kejriwal has asked all state-run sports facilities in the city to stay open for athletes until 10 p.m., said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

"News reports have come to our attention that certain sporting facilities are being closed early, creating inconvenience to sportsmen who prefer to play until late at night," Sisodia tweeted, tagging the report (night). CM @ArvindKejriwal has ordered that all Delhi government sports facilities remain open until 10 p.m. for athletes."
