Arvind Kejriwal to meet MK Stalin, Soren for support against Centre's ordinance

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet with his counterparts from Tamil Nadu (MK Stalin) and Jharkhand (Hemant Soren) on June 1 and June 2, respectively.

After meetings with several opposition leaders in the Delhi government's conflict with the Centre over the ordinance to annul the Supreme Court ruling favouring the Delhi government over control of services in the national capital. When the related bill is introduced in Parliament, Kejriwal hopes to get the backing of opposition leaders to block the Center's attempt to turn the Ordinance into a law.

The AAP government has urged that the Centre's May 19 promulgation of the Ordinance to establish an Authority for the Transfer and Posting of Group-A Officers in Delhi violates the Supreme Court's ruling on control of services.

The Ordinance was passed a week after the Supreme Court gave Delhi's elected government jurisdiction over all services except for police, public safety, and land. In order to transfer Group-A officials from the DANICS cadre and to conduct disciplinary actions against them, it proposes to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority. Within six months of the Ordinance's promulgation, the Centre must submit a bill to Parliament to replace it.

Before the top court's ruling on May 11, all Delhi government officers were subject to the lieutenant governor's executive supervision when it came to transfers and postings.

Following a meeting with Kejriwal last week, the chief ministers of Telangana, West Bengal, the Shiv Sena (UBT), Uddhav Thackeray, the NCP, and K Chandrashekar Rao have all pledged their support for the AAP on this matter.

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and the leader of the JD (U), together with his deputy Tejashwi Yadav and the leader of the RJD, have all offered their support to Kejriwal in this regard.  They has sought time from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi to seek their support against the Ordinance.
