Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan extends greetings to new Navy Chief

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan complimented and wished R Hari Kumar, the recently appointed Chief of the Naval Staff, a successful term. 'Our heartfelt congratulations go out to Vice Admiral R. Hari Kumar, the first Malayali to be named Chief of the Naval Staff. The Chief Minister said in tweets, "Wish him a magnificent stint at the helm of the @indiannavy."

After incumbent Admiral Karambir Singh departed from duty, Admiral Kumar, a Malayali, took over as the next chief of the Indian Navy. Before gaining command of the force, he was the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

The INS Nishank, Missile Corvette, INS Kora, and Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranvir are all part of Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar's Sea Command. He also led the Indian Navy's INS Viraat Aircraft Carrier. He was the Western Fleet's Fleet Operations Officer.

Born on April 12, 1962, Admiral Kumar was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on January 1, 1983.. The Admiral has held a number of command, staff, and instructional positions during the course of his nearly 39-year career in the Navy.
