Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan to begin European tour in October

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will visit Europe for two weeks in October. While there, he will meet with specialists to discuss potential collaborations in the field of education.

The chief minister is expected to meet with a Finnish team of experts who were in Kerala to discuss educational advancement along with a delegation of ministers and senior bureaucrats. The chief minister is scheduled to visit to Finland, Norway, and London, as per informaton from the sources.

Incidentally, the  Chief Minster's visit comes at a time when the state is passing through an extremely difficult patch financially.

The chief minister's scheduled travel to Europe has the internet's residents recalling his journey to the Netherlands to study how to manage the flood situation under the initiative "Room for River."

State Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal defended the chief minister, calling the criticism "needless" and claiming that such visits are necessary to keep up with global developments.

Such trips are necessary, a media critic remarked under the condition of anonymity, but only after an evaluation of the prior visits.

"We should keep in mind that there is an extraordinary surge in the number of students flying overseas for study if there is to be a tie-up in the education sector. While many students went abroad in the past to pursue master's degrees, after the Plus 2 exam, students are now being admitted to undergraduate programmes abroad, which is undoubtedly cause for concern.

Since the Vijayan government has been in power for more than six years, it would be in everyone's best interests for it to stop talking and reveal what has been accomplished on all fronts "said the critic who did not wish to be identified.
