Kerala CM Writes to PM Modi for want of Liquid Medical Oxygen and Vaccines in Kerala

Amid an acute oxygen shortage, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wrote on the urgent need for the liquid medical oxygen and vaccines in Kerala.

In his letter, Vijayan wrote: “Medical oxygen buffer storage within the State needs to be augmented urgently as there is an increased demand for medical oxygen. In order to augment the storage, we require at least 1,000 tonnes of imported Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO).”

The Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister to advise the Ministry of External Affairs to allot the required quantity partly from the current tranche of imports and balance from future imports. Allotment of 500 MT of LMO from the nearest steel plant to the State may also be advised.

It is a common scenario everywhere seen that oxygen stocks dwindled, whereby kin of covid patients were spotted standing outside various hospitals, desperate to get their hands on a portable oxygen cylinder in the absence of an oxygenated bed.
