Kerala Govt releases audio books for Class 10, 12 students

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's Department of Education launched 'audio books' for Classes 10 and 12 on Saturday.

General Education Minister V Sivankutty released the audio books for the revision parts for both Classes 10 and 12, whose public examinations are just weeks away, at a gathering here.

According to K Anvar Sadath, CEO of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the audio books prepared and made available through the First Bell portal  (www.firstbell.kite.kerala.gov.in),  are built in such a way that revision of all subjects in Class 10 may be finished in 10 hours. The audio books for Class 12 will be available from February 21 onwards, with an average duration of 1.5 hours per topic.

He explained that all revision classes in audio books available through the First Bell site will be heard in an enjoyable manner, similar to listening to a radio programme, and will be simply downloadable and shareable in mp3 format. QR codes can also be used to download audio books.

KITE has issued instructions to extend the broadband internet service offered to schools as part of the Hi-Tech school initiative so that disadvantaged students can download audio books.
