Kerala High Court asks Govt to explain stand on SilverLine SIA

The Kerala High Court has urged the Centre to explain its position on the state government's social impact assessment (SIA) survey for the proposed SilverLine rail project.

The Kerala government has not received any authorisation from the Central government to proceed with the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) or stone laying in private lands for the SilverLine semi-high-speed rail project, according to an affidavit filed in the state High Court on Saturday. It also stated that the state government did not approach the railways for approval, nor did it issue any notice about the SIA or stone laying.

After hearing all of the arguments, a single bench led by Justice Devan Ramachandran reserved its decision in a series of petitions seeking to halt the state government's stone-laying operations for the project. During the hearing, the Court had previously asked the state, "Is the state government the appropriate power to perform the project's SIA? Are the survey stones that the authorities have erected permanent?"

"This is a joint venture initiative between the Indian government and the Kerala government. Because the federal government is also a partner in the project, you are both responsible for answering all of the inquiries "The Central Government was informed by the court.
