Kerala: Protests in the assembly demanding Minister AK Saseendran's resignation

Kerala Assembly seen protests both inside and outside demanding the resignation of Minister AK Saseendran, who asked a woman to ‘amicably resolve’ a complaint of sexual harassment she had lodged against a member of Saseendran’s party, the NCP. Police used water cannons and teargas shells to disperse crowds outside the assembly hall and elsewhere in the state, demanding the resignation of NCP minister A K Saseendran allegedly for trying to hush up a sexual harassment case against one of his party workers.

A voice clip that has been going viral had Saseendran advising the father of the victim in a phone call to resolve the issue 'properly' as both the accused as well as the victim's father were both NCP workers. The phone call led to a storm as the opposition parties alleged the minister violated his oath of office as well as constitutional duty in order to protect his party colleague.

The minister, however, insists that he had only tried to address an internal problem within the party and his phone call was as the party leader and not as the minister. When he realised the nature of the problem, he says he only advised to deal with the issue properly. The woman victim alleges that due to the minister's intervention, police refused to register her FIR and has threatened to meet the Governor to lodge a formal complaint against the minister.
