THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 39-year-old woman, who was detained for poisoning her mother to death, has confessed to police that she made a failed attempt to kill her father too. The Thrissur district police recorded the arrest of the accused Indulekha on Wednesday after the 59-year-old Rukmini's postmortem revealed the presence of toxic particles in her body. The police began an inquiry based on the report and found that the accused had googled rat poison and its effects. Indulekha's defence was broken, and she eventually admitted to having committed the crime. She said that debts were rising and her husband, who works abroad, was to arrive soon. Before that, she wanted to ensure that the family property came to her. She also intended to sell the property to pay off the debts. Rukmini was admitted to a private hospital last week, after she developed uneasiness and Indulekha said she had jaundice, but when her condition deteriorated, she was moved to a bigger hospital and soon she passed away. The doctors then decided that an autopsy needed to be conducted and that is how Indulekha landed in trouble as the report showed poisonous elements in her body. She acknowledged the crime while also confessing to trying to poison her father's tea in order to murder him. The man objected to the tea because it tasted odd. Police are currently looking into whether the woman committed the act on her own or with assistance.
