Calcutta University has set a new record in education, Calcutta University (CU) has been ranked 11th in the QS India ranking 2020. It tops the state government-run universities followed by Yadavpur University in 12th position. While congratulating the two universities, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that it is a matter of pride for the state. Chancellor of Calcutta University, Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee, said on Tuesday, "We are at the top in state universities and just a few notches below the central higher education institutions including IITs and IISc." He said that CU has also ranked 27th in the world rankings, which shows that the university has a "high academic standard". Chancellor Dhankhar of both the universities said that he was confident that the universities would perform better in the coming days as well. This is a new and standard status in the country.
