Pakistan Assembly Adopts Bill To Give Right Of Appeal To Kulbhushan Jadhav

Indian prisoner Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is facing death penalty in Pakistan amid the Corona crisis, has received a major relief. Succumbing to pressure from the International Court, the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan's Parliament, gave its approval to the bill allowing Kulbhushan Jadhav to appeal to the High Court. Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is facing death sentence on behalf of the Military Court, was not entitled to be requested. Pakistan was reprimanded by an international court.

The bill gives more powers to review and reconsider the death penalty in line with the international court's decision. Sources said, kulbhushan jadhav's request in the Pakistan High Court is likely to be sent back to India. Pakistan says Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested from Balochistan in 2016 and sentenced to death by a military court the same year for espionage.

India has rejected Pakistan's claim and said Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested from Chabahar port in Iran. India said Kulbhushan Jadhav was doing his business in Iran. The international court had banned the death sentence of Kulbhushan Jadhav in 2018. The National Assembly, the lower house of the Pakistani Parliament, on Thursday allowed the formation of a 21-member standing committee. It has been named the International Court of Justice Act. It will be applicable to the entire Pakistan after the law is enacted.
