Left Front promise in Bengal: CAA not to implement if it comes to power

Kolkata: Campaigning is in full swing in West Bengal and only a few days are left for the first phase of voting. Election manifestos are being issued on behalf of all major political parties. The Left Front, which is trying to return to power after 10 years, also issued its election manifesto saying that if it comes to power, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not be allowed to come into force.

The Left Front on Saturday released its manifesto for the assembly elections in West Bengal. The front in Manifacto promised to restore the rule of law in the state and stressed that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would not be implemented in any case. The Communist Party of India CPI(M)-led front resolved to adhere to the principles of secularism and ensure the protection of linguistic and religious minorities, including Muslims.

The manifesto, issued by Left Front Chairman Biman Bose at CPI(M) state headquarters, said the BJP government at the Centre has attacked the secular and pluralistic fabric of the country. Religion has been used as torture to determine citizenship. The rights of minorities are gradually declining.
