Longest-running North East India Centric Festival from Feb 17-19

NEW DELHI: Celebrating North East, the longest-running "North East India Centric Festival", is being organised for its 16th year by the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) to showcase the vibrant textiles, music, dance, and culture of the area. The 16th edition will take place in the New Motibagh Club in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on February 17–19, 2023.

Following the enormous success of the 15th Edition of the Festival, which was hosted at the Federal property: Ronald Reagan International Building & Trade Centre in Washington D.C., the US, NEIFT promises to make the Delhi Edition bigger and more colourful.

The 16th edition will be formally launched in the presence of ambassadors, diplomats, lawmakers, members of civil society, representatives from the media on both the national and international levels, as well as Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ministry of Ayush, and Darshana Jardosh, Union Minister of State for Textiles and Railways.

Vikram Rai Medhi, CEO of NEIFT and curator of Celebrating North East, said, "Our festival was designed from the start to build a bridge of understanding, explore new avenues, and discover newer venues for the brilliant and capable young people from various regions of the North East. Since we are a fashion institute, our main goal is to provide the incredibly talented fashion and textile designers from the eight states with an international opportunity.

Today, I can proudly say that thanks to our festival, designers from the Northeast have discovered new markets and partnered with national houses to source NER sustainable textiles for design and product diversification initiatives." The 16th Edition will feature singing performances by artists like Zublee Baruah and John Oinam, among others, with their complete ensembles, as well as dance performances by a number of well-known performers, including Marami Medhi and Meghranjani Medhi. At the Festival, the renowned Nizami Bandhu will give a live performance to give attendees a glimpse of the North East and North Indian performers.

On the widest runway ever seen at a festival of this kind, the Top of the Line fashion shows, which have historically been the highlight of Celebrating North East, will feature 36 Top Models and 16 NER designers. In actuality, the long runways or ramps that characterise each Celebrating North East edition serve as their own unique trademark.

"We support real fashion, and we think that the collections that the models wear should be displayed to the press and buyers so that they can get a close-up look at the accessories, the story behind the outfit, and the fall of the fabric. This fosters an environment that is conducive to commerce for both buyers and designers "Vikram Rai Medhi was added.
