Ice Cream Vendor Stabbed to Death at Delhi's India Gate

An ice cream vendor was stabbed to death at Delhi's India Gate on Wednesday night, allegedly by a man who discovered they were both dating the same girl. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Devesh Mahla, reported that they received information around 9 pm on Wednesday regarding a quarrel near India Gate at Kartavya Path Police Station. Upon reaching the scene, the police identified the injured man as Prabhat, a resident of Sangam Vihar. He was taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital, where he later died from multiple stab wounds. During the investigation, it was revealed that Prabhat, an ice cream vendor at India Gate’s C-Hexagon, was setting up his stall when he was attacked.

Mahla said a man in his twenties approached Prabhat’s stall and stabbed him multiple times. A team led by Inspector Jitender from Kartavya Path Police Station was formed to monitor the mobile numbers of the girl and her relatives electronically. The police found some slippers at the scene, which were seized, but Prabhat’s mobile phone was missing. The police also reviewed CCTV footage to trace the attacker’s escape route.

The team conducted raids across different locations in Delhi and extensively questioned Prabhat’s family members. It was found that Prabhat was in a relationship with a minor girl. According to the police, their investigation revealed that the girl was also involved with another man named Ajay, aged 23. Later, Ajay was arrested and Prabhat’s mobile phone was recovered from him. Ajay works as a laborer and driver at a tent house in Noida.
