Chennai: The Madras High Court said that an income tax case was filed against Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and his wife Srinidhi Chidambaram for not disclosing income of Rs 7 crore on Friday. Dismissing a review petition filed by the Chidambaram couple, Justice N. Satish Kumar has given this order. The case is related to the alleged non-reporting of income of Rs 6.38 crore by Karthi and Rs 1.35 crore by his wife Srinidhi Chidambaram in 2015. According to the Income Tax Department, Karti and his wife had received cash from selling land in Muttukadu, but they did not provide this information in the income tax return. Please tell that Karti Chidambaram was elected to the Lok Sabha in the year 2019 from Sivaganga parliamentary constituency. On September 12, 2018, the Chennai-based Income Tax Department's Deputy Director filed a complaint against the petitioners for offences under Section 276 (1) and 277 of the Income Tax Act in addition to economic offences in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. The court had said that "the basis for filing the complaint," constitutes opinion only by the Deputy Director of Income Tax Department.
