Brain-dead woman gave new life to 5 people including two army jawans

New Delhi: A brain-dead woman has given new life to five people, including two army personnel. The organ was donated at the Command Hospital Southern Command (CHSC), Pune. Defense PRO has informed that 'After an unfortunate accident, a young lady was brought to CHSC Hospital in the last moments of her life. During treatment, doctors found that his brain was not showing any signs of being alive. The process of organ donation after death was known to his family members.'

The PRO has told 'After talking to the transplant coordinator of the hospital, the family members expressed their desire that the organs of the woman should be donated. Which can be useful to needy people. The transplant team was put to work immediately after getting the necessary clearances. Simultaneously, the Zonal Transplant Coordination Center (ZTCC) and the Army Organ Retrieval and Transplant Authority (AORTA) were also informed. The organs were transplanted on the night of 14 July and on the morning of 15 July. A kidney transplant was done in the body of two Indian Army jawans. Eyes kept in CH(SC)-Armed Forces Medical College Complex. Liver transplanted to a patient at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune. A total of five lives were saved.

Organ donation after death and a coordinated hospital effort brought life and vision to five critically ill patients. The Defense Department said this reinforces the belief that 'don't take your organs to heaven, God knows we need them here!'
