Maharashtra govt issues strict instructions to employees amid Pegasus spyware case

Mumbai: The issue of Pegasus spyware espionage in the country has been in constant news. Now, in the midst of the same case, the Maharashtra government has issued an order to employees to use mobile phones at least in the office. In fact, the Maharashtra government has asked its employees last Friday to minimize the use of mobile phones during office timings. Now, an order issued by the government says that landline phones are better than mobiles. Let me tell all of you that an order issued by the Department of General Administration, Government of Maharashtra has said that mobile phones should be used only if necessary for official work.

The order also says that the indiscriminate use of mobile phones in the office tarnishes the image of the government. At the same time, the order says, "If a mobile phone is to be used, text messages should be used more, and conversations through these devices should be minimal.'' In addition, the government has said, "The use of social media through mobile devices should also be restricted during office hours.''

Let me tell you all that last Sunday, an international media group revealed that more than 300 mobile phone numbers of two Union Ministers of India, more than 40 journalists, three opposition leaders and a sitting judge, several industrialists, and human rights activists were targeted through Israel's spy software sold only to government agencies. As soon as the matter took a toll, both the Houses of Parliament was rocked by the opposition. Meanwhile, the government rejected all opposition allegations in the case.
