Mahasamund: Police in Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh have arrested six persons for smuggling Khair wood and seized wood worth more than Rs 1 crore from them. This was reported by an officer on Friday. Superintendent of Police Divyang Patel said that a joint team of Mahasamund Cyber Cell and Saraipali police on Wednesday recovered two trucks loaded with Khair wood from different locations in the district. He also informed that 421 quintals of Khair wood (priced at Rs 1,05,25,000), two trucks, Rs 56,100 cash, three mobile handsets were recovered due to the drive. The culprits were identified as Bhagwan Singh Tyagi (42), Mansukh (58), Omprakash Kushwaha (45), Shiv Singh (27), Ramprakash Kushwaha (25), and all hail from Rajasthan. Avinash alias Sunny Chawla has been identified as Mahasamund, a resident. Patel said that after the smuggling of wood, the joint team stopped the truck on NH-53 under Saraipali police station and arrested driver Bhagwan Singh, conductor Mansukh, and Omprakash, and seized 203 quintals of khair logs. The team arrested Shiv Singh and Ramprakash from a truck carrying 178 quintals of Khair wood on Bhanwarpur Road.
