Mahashivratri Special: Bhang Thandai recipe to please Lord Shiva

Mahashivratri also refers to the night when Shiva performs the heavenly dance called Tandava. The Hindu calendar is lunisolar but most festival dates are specified using the lunar portion of the calendar. Food also enjoys a massive significance on Shivaratri specially Bhang. According to Indian culture the mention of Bhang is found in the books of mythology and vedic scriptures, wherein it is considered to be a sacred plant, which is a source of connection with the divine power of Lord Shiva and is often associated with nirvana and moksha. Let us have a quick look on this delicious recipe of Bhang on Shivarati.

Ingredients

·         1/2 Tablespoon bhang seed powder

·         2 Cup water

·         1/2 Tablespoon aniseed

·         11 Peppercorns

·         2 Green cardamom

·         1 Tablespoon melon seeds

·         1 Litre milk

·         1/2 Cup sugar

·         1 Tablespoon almonds

·         1/4 Teaspoon saffron

·         1/4 Cup Dry Rose Petals

Step-by-step recipe

Take water in bowl and soak aniseeds, almonds, watermelon seeds, bhang and rose petals in it.

After 4 to 5 hours, grind these ingredients to make a smooth paste.

Keep some almonds aside to make it creamier and make a separate paste.

Add it later as per your taste preference. Boil the milk and keep aside.

Now add some water into the paste and strain using a piece of muslin.

 Add sugar, peppercorns, powdered cardamom and saffron and mix well. Add milk to the mixture.

Now Garnish it with some roasted and sliced almonds and pistachios. Now your thandai is ready put some ice in it or freez it for some hours. First serve this to Lord Krishna and then distribute to the Devotees.
