He served love rolled in poetry: Maithili Sharan Gupt birthday special

He was awarded the title of Rashtriya Kavi by Mahatma Gandhi for his contribution in India’s battle for freedom through his poetries and write-ups.

Maithili Sharan Gupt has been considered amongst the most renowned poets of the country.

He built a different image for himself in an era when his contemporaries chose to write in the soft dialects like the Brij Bhasha, he, on the other hand, wrote in Khari Boli, which became his USP and made him stand out from the crowd.

He was the author of a very famous book called Bharat-Bharati and was awarded one of the highest civilian honors of the country, the Padma Bhushan for the same.

He was born in the state of Uttar Pradesh in a village called Chirgaon, which was in Jhansi in a family that belonged to the Gahoi community. He hated going to the school, as a child. Therefore his father made arrangements for a home tutor.

He was mentored by his guru, Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi.

He penned some of the greatest and the finest pieces of Hindi literature like Bharat-Bharati, Jayadrath Vadh, Vikat Bhat, Plassey ka Yuddha, Gurukul, Kisan, Panchavati, Nirjhar, Yashodhara, Saket, Rang Mein Bhang, Matrubhumi.
