Malaysia Open World tournament starts with Sindhu and Srikanth's victory

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth won their respective matches and made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open World Tour Super 750 tournament.

Sindhu, who did not participate in the finals to be fully fit after winning silver in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, defeated the tough challenge of Japan's Aya Ohori in women's singles. In the opening match, he defeated world number 14 Uhori, 26-24 21-15. The third-seeded Indian will face Malaysia's Ying Ying Li on Thursday. 

Seven number player Kidambi Srikanth defeated world number two Jan Gargansen of Denmark 21-18, 21-9 in men's singles match lasting 31 minutes to win four titles in the last season. In the next round, they will face Wang Jui Wei of Chinese Taipei, who beat Indian shuttler and Singapore Open champion B Sai Praneeth 21-12, 21-7 in another match.

Recently, Asian games are also being held for which five athletes, including top Indian Sprinter Odisha's Dutti Chand, qualified for Asian Games in their respective competitions at the Athletics Championships. Dutti secured his place for Asian Games with 23:46 sec in qualifying heat for the final round of women's 200 meters race.

Besides them, Hema Das and Nanda of Odisha also qualified for Asian Games. In the men's 400 meter hurdles, Darun Ariyasamy (49.68 s) of Tamil Nadu, Santosh Kumar (50.10 s) and Jashnjot Singh of Punjab (50.64 s) received a qualification mark of 50.80, but only two selected will go for Asian Games.​
