Male single parent who is a Government Employee are entitled for Child Care Leave

The Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday has announced an heart warming news for the Single male parent in India. Male Government employees who are single parents are now entitled to child care leave. The term 'Single male parent' includes unmarried or widower or divorcee, who are taking the responsibility of caring for a child single-handedly.

The minister has described it as a path-breaking and progressive reform to bring ease of living for government servants. He added the orders were issued long back but did not get enough traction in public domain. The official statement said, an employee on child care leave may now leave the headquarters with the prior approval of the competent authority. Further,  the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) may be availed by the employee even if he is on child care leave.

The child care leave can be granted at 100% of leave salary for the first 365 days and 80% of leave salary for the next 365 days. An additional feature added is that in case of a disabled child, the condition of availing child care leave up to the child age of 22 years has been removed which means government servant can avail the child care leave for a disabled child of any age.
