Imphal: The 'No School Bag Day' initiative launched by the Manipur government is getting a good response from students, officials of some schools and parents. The Education Department of Manipur recently announced to implement 'No School Bag Day' on all Saturdays for students from first-class to 8th class including government, government-aided and private schools to promote syllabus other than textbooks. After considering this, the Education Department has taken this decision. Government release stated that primary and middle-level school students are often found engaged in the school curriculum, extra homework and assignment related tasks. With this decision of the government, boys and girls will be given time for other activities including games, sports, additional co-curricular activities, which will help them in personality development". Tanya, a student of class VIII, said that "we have been going to school with bags for so many years. Bags are also heavy but slowly we get used to carrying bags.
