IMPHAL: The Manipur government has implemented a night curfew in Pherzawl and parts of Jiribam districts to curb illegal immigration from Bangladesh. This decision, effective from Tuesday, aims to enhance security and manage the movement of people in these areas. Curfew Details According to officials, the Deputy Commissioners of Pherzawl and Jiribam districts imposed the night curfew under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The curfew is enforced to control the influx of immigrants, despite Manipur not sharing a direct border with Bangladesh. Manipur, however, has inter-state borders with southern Assam, which in turn borders Bangladesh. Restrictions in Meghalaya Similarly, Meghalaya, which shares a 445 km border with Bangladesh, imposed a night curfew on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong stated that the curfew would cover areas within 200 meters from the zero line to prevent unauthorized movement. The Border Security Force (BSF) is tasked with maintaining strict vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border in the state. Curfew Timings and Enforcement In Pherzawl district, the night curfew will be relaxed from 8 AM to 4 PM. In Jiribam, the restrictions apply to areas under the Jiribam Municipal Council and Borobekra subdivision, with relaxation from 9 AM to 3 PM. The orders issued by the district magistrates prohibit the assembly of five or more persons and the movement of people outside their residences during curfew hours. Additionally, carrying objects that can be used as offensive weapons is banned. Border Security and Law Enforcement Jiribam and Pherzawl districts share borders with Assam's Cachar district, which is adjacent to Bangladesh. Security forces are instructed to strictly enforce the curfew and maintain law and order. The restrictions will not apply to government agencies and essential services, ensuring that necessary operations continue uninterrupted.
