Imphal: The seven women farmers of Manipur were honoured on National Women Farmer’s Day on Thursday. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal West district and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for North Eastern Hill Region Manipur centre honoured women for their contribution in the farming activities in diverse fields in the state. ICAR for North Eastern Hill Region Manipur centre officials handed over a recognition certificate each along with a lengyan, a traditional stole during National Women Farmer’s Day (Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas) observation at ICAR Manipur centre premises in Imphal on Thursday. DAO Kullabidhu responding to the demands of the women farmers said that the time has come for the women involved in the farming activities in the state to raise their voice to fulfill their pending grievances. The women farmers who recvived horonor included H Chanbi Devi of Khurkhul,Kh Shila Devi of Lamshang,N Amusana Devi of Potsangbam,H Tombi Devi of Maklang,N Sinthangambi of Taothong,Pipi Keithelakpam of Sagolband and P Pramo of Wangoi from Imphal West district. National Women Farmer’s Day is observed every year on October 15 to empower women in the field of agriculture. District Agriculture Officer (DAO)Karam Kullabidhu of Imphal West District, Joint Director I Meghachandra Singh and Program Coordinator Kh Hera Singh of KVK Imphal West district were present in the event.
