New Delhi: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday said that an exclusive 30 per cent allocation of the North Eastern Council (NEC) fund will go for the neglected areas of the region. This fund will be utilized in the development of deprived areas and neglected sections of the society and emerging sectors.

The Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Singh said that It has been decided that 30 percent of  NEC's allocations for new projects under the existing schemes of North Eastern Council will be dedicated for the development of deprived areas, deprived and neglected sections of societies and emerging sectors of the North Eastern States.  He further said that this scheme would also lead to preservation of cultural diversity of North East and help growth of such scripts and languages, which are gradually on the verge of extinct.

Singh that the North Eastern Council on the advice of Home Minister Amit Shah, moved a proposal which was approved at the Union Cabinet Meeting. The proposal was approved by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Modi, he said, speaking to a Chakma delegation represented by 'Committee for Citizenship Rights of the Chakma and Hajong' of Arunachal Pradesh.  The DoNER minister said that this will also help in the development of the neglected sections of the society in the northeast and reduce inter-region and inter-tribe, community disparity which will allow to meet the need of hitherto neglected sections.
