Five Adivasi groups apprise Assam CM of their problems in ceasefire meet

Dispur: Five Adivasi organizations on ceasefire along with a delegation of Adivasi National Convention met Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday and submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands. They came along with a delegation of the Adivasi National Convention.  They apprised the CM that though they have been on the ceasefire since 2012, no parleys took place for meeting their demands.

According to an official release the representatives of the Adivasi Cobra Militant Force, Birsa Commando Force, Adivasi National Liberation Army and Santhal Tiger Force, Adivasi People's Army,  told Sonowal though they are in a ceasefire since 2012, no parleys have been made to fulfil their demands. They reiterated their demands of ST status for the Adivasis along with other issues confronting the Adivasi people. The Adivasi organizations submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

The groups admitted that after the BJP government came to power at the Centre as well in the, the members of the groups were taken into confidence and fresh bout of discussions started happening between the govt and  disgruntled groups. They also thanked CM for the steps the present State government has taken for according the Adivasi ST status. They also applead for leading the process in facilitating a tripartite agreement with Centre being one of the signatories. They also demanded nursing institutes, vocational training institutes and upgrading the venture educational schools into provincial institutions in Adivasi inhabited areas.
