Kolkata: During the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, West Bengal Police reported the neutralization of 22 crude bombs in the Sitalkuchi area of Cooch Behar on Thursday.
Last month, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) discovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols and revolvers, during searches in Sandeshkhali.
The recovery was part of searches conducted by CBI teams investigating a case related to violence against officials of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).
The recovered items included three foreign-made revolvers, one Indian revolver, one Colt official police revolver, one foreign-made pistol, one country-made pistol, 120 9mm bullets, 50 .45 caliber cartridges, 120 9mm caliber cartridges, 50 .380 cartridges, and eight .32 cartridges, according to the agency.
In addition to the weapons, incriminating documents related to Sheikh Shahjahan were also seized. The teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) are handling and disposing of some items suspected to be country-made bombs.
West Bengal, which contributes 42 MPs to Parliament, is voting in all seven phases. Phases one and two were held on April 19 and April 26, respectively. The remaining phases of polling are scheduled for May 4, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Vote counting will take place on June 4.
