Imphal: A wave of nationwide uproar has ensued after a disturbing incident in Manipur, where two women were shamefully paraded naked. In response, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has taken swift action, urging cybercrime officials to thoroughly verify the authenticity of the viral video. Expressing his shock and condemnation of the heinous crime against humanity, the Chief Minister disclosed that the incident occurred on May 3, followed by the appalling act against tribal women on May 4. However, it is deeply concerning that the video emerged a staggering 47 days later. The state government will not tolerate such atrocities and is committed to seeking justice. "In light of the video's emergence, I have ordered a mass combing operation in suspected areas," announced CM Biren Singh. He emphasized the urgency of ascertaining the video's authenticity and has entrusted the cybercrime officials with this crucial task. Capital punishment is being sought for the accused, and the state government vows to pursue all possible avenues for justice. The video has ignited sharp reactions from various political parties, triggering widespread outrage. In response to the incident, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Das tweeted that strict action would be taken against all the culprits, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. "There is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society," he declared. Expressing his pain and dismay, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also denounced the incident, stating that it brings shame to any civil society. He asserted that no accused would escape punishment for such a despicable act. Addressing the nation ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, PM Modi called for tighter law and order across states, emphasizing that the issue of a woman's honor transcends politics. He urged chief ministers, irrespective of party affiliations, to prioritize the safety and dignity of women. The unrest in Manipur has been ongoing since May 3, following protests by the Kuki and Naga communities. These protests were in response to the High Court's order, which called on the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the category of Scheduled Tribes (ST). The ST status grants the privilege of buying lands in hilly areas. The Meitei community, mainly residing in the Imphal valley and surrounding regions, seeks ST status due to their increasing population and the need for additional land to meet their requirements. The situation in Manipur demands a thorough investigation into the authenticity of the viral video, and the government is committed to ensuring justice prevails in this distressing case Sonia Gandhi Urges PM Modi for Manipur Discussion in Parliament PM Modi Condemns Manipur Incident, Calls for Stronger Law and Order Manipur Violence: Tribal Leader Forum Regrets Kuki Zo Conflict
