Washington: A senior United Nations official has said that many Asian countries, including China and India, are curbing freedom of expression in the name of Coronavirus. There are strict restrictions. Arrests are being made forcibly. People are being detained This is a sheer wrong step. It is against human rights. Governments should pay attention to this. In a statement issued by UN Rights chief, Michel Bashlet said that those people who are raising their voice against their government are being tortured in Asian countries. Due to this, arrests are being made. Also, people are being put in custody. Whereas, the victims were only sharing information. Michel said that in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, people are being provided with information through social media. Whereas, they are accused that they are spreading false information and rumours through the press and social media. United Nations High Commissioner Mitchell said that it is necessary that misinformation should be stopped so that the health and safety of the general public can be taken care of. But spreading hatred or action against minorities in its name is not appropriate.
