Market closes with a 478-point gain for the Sensex, Nifty above 18,000

Market Closing Updates: Benchmarking of the stock market Despite a negative trend in global markets, the Sensex rallied 478 points on November 8 thanks to gains in index majors HDFC, Infosys, and Kotak Bank.

The 30-share index finished 477.99 points, or 0.80 percent, higher at 60,545.61 after a volatile session. The Nifty also rose 151.75 points, or 0.85 percent, to 18,068.55. Titan, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Bank, and HDFC were the top gainers in the Sensex pack, rising over 4 percent.

IndusInd Bank, on the other hand, was the worst performer in the Sensex pack, falling over 10 percent after the lender admitted to disbursing 84,000 loans without customer consent in May due to a "technical glitch." Among the laggards were Mahindra and Mahindra, SBI, Maruti, Asian Paints, and TCS.

In today's market, broader indices outperformed benchmark indices. The BSE Midcap index rose by 1.20 percent, while the BSE Smallcap index gained by 0.78 percent. Today's market breadth was also positive. 1,808 shares of the 3,550 stocks traded on the exchange ended the day higher, 1,551 shares lower, and 191 shares unchanged.
