New Delhi: Demonstration started against the large dams being built by Chinese companies on the Neelum-Jhelum river. This demonstration is being done by people living in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). All of them are openly protesting. A Mashan rally has been taken out in Muzaffarabad city. The people of the committee have raised slogans of 'Save Darya, Save Muzaffarabad' and "Neelum-Jhelum Behne Do, Humein Zinda Rehne Do'(let the Neelum and Jhelum rivers flow, let us live). According to the information, hundreds of residents of the city and people living in other parts of PoK participated in the rally and raised slogans. Pakistan and China have signed the agreement regarding the construction of the hydropower project in Azad Pattan and Kohala. The 700.7 MW Azad Pattan Hydel Power Project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on 6 July. The 1.54 billion USD project is said to be sponsored by China's Geojaba Group Company (CGGC). The Kohala Hydroelectric Power Project is 7 kilometres from Jhelum River and 90 kilometres from the capital of Pakistan. It is expected to be completed by 2026. There are reports about the project being sponsored by China Three Gorges Corporation, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Silk Bank Fund. Now talking about the areas of Muzaffarabad, officials are concerned about the presence of Chinese people, dam construction and the diversity of the river and they are feeling threatened about their existence. In the name of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, both countries are looting the natural resources of PoK and Gilgit Baltistan and this is why the resentment against Pakistan is visible in PoK.
