New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recommended all states, Union Territories (UTs), and Central departments to expedite the process of recipients for the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) to be awarded on Republic Day, 2024. In a letter issued on November 24, marking the second communication within eight days, the MHA reiterated to all concerned parties that the deadline for submitting recommendations for the PSM and MSM awards had been extended until November 30. The MHA's letter highlighted the absence of nominations from various states, UTs, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organisations (CPOs), and organizations. The letter urged the timely submission of nominations for the PSM and MSM awards on or before the designated deadline of November 30, 2023. Addressed to chief secretaries, home secretaries, Directors General of Police across all states and UTs, the MHA also directed similar communications to the Directors of the Intelligence Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation, other pertinent Central agencies and departments, as well as the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Additionally, the MHA extended this communication to heads of fire services, Directors of Civil Defence, prison authorities, the Commandant General of Home Guards in states and UTs, and all divisions within the Ministry of Home Affairs. Previously, on November 17, the MHA had extended the deadline for submitting recommendations until November 30 for the PSM and MSM awards scheduled for Republic Day, 2024. This extension follows requests from states, UTs, CAPFs, CPOs, and relevant organizations, citing various reasons for needing more time. Initially, the deadline for nomination recommendations was set for November 17.
