Mickey Arthur's Successor Misbah-ul-Haq Awaits PCB's Next Move

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq Khan Niazi is a former Pakistani cricket coach and former international cricketer. Misbah served as the captain of Pakistan in all competitions and has served as both the team's head coach and top selector. He captained Pakistan to victory in the 2012 Asia Cup, making them champions. Two years after losing in the final of the previous competition, Misbah was a member of the side that won the 2009 ICC World Twenty20.

Misbah-ul-Haq has disclosed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet gotten in touch with him regarding a possible return as coach or chief selector of the Pakistani side.

In a news conference, the former captain was questioned about his willingness to resume the aforementioned roles with the national team.

"I have not been contacted by PCB as of yet. When they will contact me, then I will see. I already have a lot of prior commitments, whether it is with leagues or with television channels. It won’t be easy to immediately take up a role with the Pakistan team. I will have to see what role will be offered and whether I would be able to do it or not," Misbah said.

Abdul Razzaq, a former cricketer for Pakistan, stated last week that Misbah had a decent chance of joining the Pakistan team again as a coach.

"Now, with the recent change in PCB's chief, I understand that they are unable to make any decisions right now. However, I feel that Misbah-ul-Haq has a good chance of taking charge of the Pakistan team again," Razzaq said.

It is important to note that Misbah-ul-Haq, a former captain of Pakistan, stepped into a dual role in September 2019 and took on the duties of team selection and coaching.

Mickey Arthur coached Pakistan at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, but after the team's failure to go past the quarterfinals, Misbah was named the team's coach for a three-year contract a few months later.

However, Misbah made the decision to leave his position as Men in Green head coach after Ramiz Raja was elected PCB chairman in September 2021.
