Minister KTR hits back at Rahul Gandhi over paddy issue

HYDERABAD: KT Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), has retaliated against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's criticism of the TRS administration over the paddy procurement issue.

Rama Rao enumerated the TRS government's efforts on behalf of farmers, claiming that it accomplished in seven years what Congress regimes had failed to accomplish in 50 years.

"For more than 50 years, your party has had the opportunity to rule this country. When INC was in control in Telangana, it couldn't even give 6 hours of energy to farmers, causing agony and suicides "KTR retweeted. He was responding to a tweet by Rahul Gandhi, who said that the BJP-led federal government and the TRS-led state government were playing politics with farmers' difficulties and avoiding their moral obligation to acquire paddy from farmers.

IT, Industries and Urban Development Minister KTR, who is son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has ushered in an agricultural revolution with innovative schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, Mission Kakatiya, 24 hours of free power supply, and a focus on irrigation.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Tuesday provoked a Twitter feud between K. Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrababu Naidu, and Manickam Tagore, the Congress MP in charge of Telangana.

Kavitha, a member of the State Legislative Council, had asked Rahul Gandhi to support the TRS demand for a standard procurement strategy across the country rather than relying on tweets for political gain.
