HYDERABAD: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP-led central government and the TRS-led Telangana government over the paddy procurement issue on Tuesday.

He demanded that the governments take all necessary steps to ensure that farmers receive every grain of paddy grown. He described the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the state as "shameful" for playing politics with farmers' hard work and abandoning their moral obligation to procure paddy. The Congress MP used Telugu in his tweets about paddy procurement.

Rahul Gandhi said, Both governments should cease causing issues for farmers by enacting anti-farmer legislation and procure every grain grown by farmers. He stated that the Congress party will battle until the government obtains the last grain of paddy in Telangana.

The central government and state governments are currently at odds on paddy procurement. The TRS government has threatened to escalate its agitation, requesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi purchase the whole stock of paddy during the current Yasangi season.

The Centre, on the other hand, insists on buying raw rice from the state in accordance with an agreement struck between the state and the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
